The ongoing IndyGo Blue Line project will result in some traffic changes for guests visiting the Zoo this summer.
In addition to continued lane restrictions in both directions of Washington Street, projects from IndyGo and Citizens Energy Group will require the complete closure of the intersection of Washington and Harding Streets during construction. This will close the Indianapolis Zoo’s South Parking Lot from July 14-August 11.
Zoo staff will monitor the capacity of the primary parking lot during this closure (July 14-August 11) and direct traffic accordingly as the lot fills. The right lane of westbound Washington Street will be open to enter the Zoo, and guests coming from the west can access Washington Street from White River Parkway North. Zoo hours will be unaffected.
This construction schedule, while inconvenient for Zoo guests, is necessary to complete the projects. Crews will work to reduce the closure time if possible and return to unrestricted access to the Indianapolis Zoo entrance as soon as possible.
Reservations are not required. Visitors are urged to purchase their tickets ahead of time online to receive a discount.
