Round Up for Conservation 2020
Your change can help support wildlife affected by the Australian bushfires

Round Up for Conservation in 2020

How can small change make a big difference for conservation?

Through the Zoo’s Round Up for Conservation program, guests are helping to save wild things and wild places by rounding up and donating the spare change from purchases made in the Zoo’s gift shop.

In 2020, our Round Up for Conservation will support recovery and rehabilitation efforts for wildlife affected by the bushfire crisis in Australia.

Sparked in September 2019 and stoked by soaring temperatures and drought conditions, the Australian wildfires have scorched millions of acres across the continent. The toll has been terrible, with many human lives lost and homes destroyed while countless animals have been either killed or injured. The total loss continues to increase as the fires are still burning.

Many of the areas hit hard by fires are rich in biodiversity, such as Kangaroo Island, which is home to many threatened and endangered species.

We’ve been watching the developments in this heartbreaking story, and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums community is in contact with zoos in Australia to learn more about how to help.

That’s where our Round Up for Conservation program comes in. By donating the extra change from your gift shop purchases, you can make a difference for species affected by the fires.

Started in 2017, the Round Up for Conservation program has successfully collected more than $52,000 to support organizations including the Alaska SeaLife Center, Giraffe Conservation Foundation and SECORE International. Learn more about all the conservation efforts the Zoo supports.
