The Indianapolis Zoo is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (Charity Number 35-1074747) that does not receive tax support and is governed by a board of trustees. The Indianapolis Zoo is accredited as a zoo, aquarium and botanical garden. The Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and the American Alliance of Museums and is a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
