Now closed for the 2020 season, Butterfly Kaleidoscope presented by Citizens Energy Group transforms the indoor gardens into a tropical paradise to filled with more than 40 colorful species of butterflies and moths! This stunning seasonal exhibit will return in 2021.
Watch these wonderful winged insects flit nearby while you walk through the warm, aromatic indoor garden. See remarkable species like the blue morpho, Julia, paper kite and giant owl. Each day, newly hatched butterflies will be released from the Emergence Chamber near the center of the Conservatory. Come to one of our scheduled releases and watch them take their first flight! Learn about the amazing metamorphosis of these magical creatures — from egg to larva to pupa to butterfly. Don’t forget your camera to capture the stunning colors and delicate details of these fascinating insects!
A dazzling array of colors will fill every corner of the conservatory in this show, making you believe that you are walking into an immense glass kaleidoscope. A rainbow of light shimmers in through stained glass windows. These translucent, jewel-toned panels will mimic the butterflies as they float on the air currents high in the air in the Conservatory. Plus, find several stunning glass feeders for an up-close look at our beautiful butterflies at rest.

Home gardeners interested in bringing butterflies and other local wildlife to their own backyards can discover the native pollinator garden located behind the Conservatory. Inspiration can also be found outdoors amid the 3 acres of lush plantings throughout the Gardens, which will soon be bursting with beautiful tulips and other spring blooms.
