During this animal encounter, participants will have an opportunity to enter the tortoise habitat and meet one of the tortoises up close. Guided by a member of the Zoo team, participants will learn about Aldabra tortoises, get to know an individual of our creep, discover how they can act to protect tortoise species right here in Indiana and even grab a “shell-fie” before they leave.
All participants under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a paid adult participant. Children under 2 enter for free.
Animal and weather dependent. The tortoises will not be on exhibit if the outdoor temperature is below 65°F.

This experience is open to participants of all ages. Youth 13 or younger must be accompanied by a paid adult participant 18 years or older while inside the tortoise yard. Children under 2 are free.
During this experience, one of the Zoo’s trained staff will guide a few participants at a time into the tortoise yard to meet one of the Aldabra tortoises. Since we will be entering the tortoise’s living space, we recommend closed-toed shoes.
Yes! Touch opportunities are the choice of the individual tortoise you meet, but we do provide plenty of time for touch opportunities during the experience.
Yes. For this experience, both photos and videos are allowed.
Tickets for this experience are currently only sold day-of at the Zoo. Purchase locations include the Visitor Services Center, the carousel ticket booth, and the train ticket booth.
Participants should check in 10 minutes prior to the start of the experience.
