Things to Know Before You Visit

Does the zoo accept both cash and cards?

The Zoo accepts both cash and card. We do encourage guests to purchase their tickets online ahead of time to ensure a smooth entry, especially for those coming with large groups.

What kinds of activities are available?
  • The FFA convention falls during our annual ZooBoo this year. So if you come after 2pm October 23-24, you are welcome to wear your costume and enjoy the zoo until 7pm.  ZooBoo is 2-9pm October 25-26.
  • Face painting and caricatures will be available for purchase during daytime hours.
  • Check our calendar for animal chats, feed times, and the dolphin presentation here Zoo Calendar.
  • You can ride the train, our rollercoaster, or feed some of the animals with a purchased ticket. Tickets are available for purchase by the carousel and the train or you can purchase an Explorer Pass which includes rides and up to 5 animal feeds.
  • Behind the Scenes Educational tours are available for purchase on a first come first serve basis. Chat with the animal keepers, meet animals up close, and see where our on staff veterinarians care for the animals.
What animals can I see if it is cold?

Fall months often bring colder temperatures. Though we try to always have as many animals out as possible for visitors to enjoy, sometimes it’s just too cold for them. On days when the weather is rainy or too cold for some of our animals friends, make sure to visit our indoor exhibits in Deserts, Oceans, and Orangutans. Chimpanzees can be viewed in the Deborah J. Simon Culture Center. Our outdoor forest animals also don’t mind the cooler temperatures. And don’t forget the underwater viewing area in the dolphin gallery.
