SUPPORT ANIMAL CONSERVATION

Animal Amigos

Adopt a California Sea Lion Today!
Sea lions stay warm in the cold ocean water with a thick layer of blubber that also gives them fat reserves for energy to hunt and migrate. They can reach speeds of up to 25 miles per hour when swimming and can dive nearly 1,000 feet while holding their breath for more than 10 minutes. Like all animals at the Indianapolis Zoo, sea lions are ambassadors for their counterparts in the wild. While they are listed as a species of least concern, according to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, some of their populations are threatened by pollution, hunting and human recreational activities. Through the Animal Amigo program, you support the care of sea lions at the Zoo and its broader global conservation efforts.
