Spanning nine South American nations, the Amazon Rainforest is home to nearly 10 percent of all known species on Earth. In the Amazonian Rainforest exhibit, guests encounter animals from forest floor to canopy—from armadillos and tortoises to sloths and toucans—surrounded by lush trees and plants.
Covering 6.7 million square kilometers and containing an estimated 400 billion trees, the Amazon helps regulate the global climate, earning it the nickname “the lungs of our planet.” Yet deforestation remains its greatest threat, with millions of hectares lost each year.
This exhibit explores the causes of deforestation and shows how everyday, sustainable choices can help protect the Amazon and rainforests around the world.
