Animal Amigos

Get ready to meet some of nature’s slow and steady wonders! This summer, giant tortoises return to the Indianapolis Zoo, offering guests a chance to encounter gentle giants up close. Measuring up to 4 feet long and weighing several hundred pounds, a giant tortoise’s impressive size is matched only by its age. They can live 150 years or more! Like all animals at the Indianapolis Zoo, Aldabra giant tortoises are ambassadors for their counterparts in the wild, as they are listed as Vulnerable to extinction according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species. Through the Animal Amigo program, you support the care of gentoo penguins here at the Zoo and support the Indianapolis Zoo’s global conservation efforts.
