Nominations Open for 2027 Indianapolis Prize

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Indianapolis Zoo today launched a global search for the next recipient of the prestigious Indianapolis Prize, the world’s leading award for animal conservation.

Nominations are being accepted now for the 2027 Indianapolis Prize. This distinguished award honors individuals whose efforts have had a positive conservation impact on a species or group of species. The recipient receives $250,000, the largest monetary award for global animal conservation.

“The Prize celebrates and recognizes remarkable conservationists who dedicate their lives to saving animal species. I am proud that Indianapolis is home to this prestigious award,” said Dr. Rob Shumaker, President and CEO of the Indianapolis Zoo.

Indianapolis Prize Nominations
To be accepted as a nominee, an individual must have accomplished an individual achievement or series of individual achievements resulting in a significant, positive impact on an animal species or group of species. Nominee evaluations consider challenges overcome, quality of science involved and measurable outcomes. The impact of these notable achievements must be clearly recognizable when evaluated by the Nominating Committee and Jury. Entries will be accepted through Feb. 27, 2026.

Emerging Conservationist Award Applications

To recognize and celebrate young, promising conservationists, the Indianapolis Zoo also bestows the Emerging Conservationist Award. To be eligible, applicants must be under 40 years of age and can demonstrate a significant personal impact on saving an animal species or group of species. The winner receives $50,000.
