Our beloved holiday tradition is nominated for the list for a sixth-straight year

Vote Christmas at the Zoo for 10Best Zoo Lights

We’re excited to announce that Christmas at the Zoo presented by Donatos and Teachers Credit Union has earned its sixth straight nomination for USA Today’s 10Best Zoo Lights list.

With three previous top five finishes, we need the community’s help for our beloved holiday event to reach the top this year.

Visit the USA Today 10Best website to vote now. Fans can vote once per day through noon on Dec. 7, and the winner will be announced Friday, Dec. 18.

With a tradition dating back to 1967, Christmas at the Zoo was the first zoo lights event in the nation, and it’s an honor to consistently be ranked among the nation’s best.

Year after year, thousands of families from Central Indiana and beyond come to celebrate the holidays with the Indianapolis Zoo. For our 52nd season, we’ve added more lights and extra nights. Opening this year on Nov. 21, Christmas at the Zoo continues through Dec. 30, closed only on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Festivities run 5-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday and Sunday, and 5-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Under our Bicentennial Pavilion, Santa’s Village is our newest and most popular addition, and attendance will be monitored in this area to ensure space for social distancing. Visitors can see Santa’s sleigh and reindeer, pose at our new Christmas tree photo op and encounter wintertime animals, including penguins and our beautiful new Arctic fox. Plus, Santa himself will greet guests for fun and reimagined visits inside his study.

The Zoo’s most photo-worthy spot after dark, the stunning Tunnel of Lights leads visitors down a glittering, one-way path into the rest of the Zoo that’s filled with more than a million colorful lights and festive lighted displays. We encourage everyone to come early to visit our more robust animals, including walrus, tigers, red panda, brown bears and many others. At sunset, the Zoo transforms into a winter wonderland, and guests can enjoy the warm glow of the lights while listening to the cheerful sounds of the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir.

As part of our continuing safety measures to ensure our guests enjoy a safe and merry holiday experience, all guests must reserve their timed-entry tickets in advance online and masks are required for all guests over the age of 3.
