The Zoo welcomed one male and two female Aruba Island rattlesnake babies in June 2024. Females can give birth to as many as 15 young snakes after 4 to 5 months of internal gestation. The baby snakes are on their own and become fully grown by about age 5.
Only about 250 Aruba Island rattlesnakes are left in the wild. Three slithery new babies were bred at the Indianapolis Zoo in June 2024 as part of an Association of Zoos & Aquariums Species Survival Plan breeding program to aid conservation of this rare island snake species.
