More than a million guests visit the Indianapolis Zoo to enjoy our 64 acres of animal exhibits and 3 acres of gardens, all while supporting our animal conservation mission. Our Guest Experiences Team provides personal and sincere attention to each guest; exceed each guest’s expectations of quality, cleanliness and service in all areas of guest services. Successful candidates will be counted upon to always provide friendly, courteous, professional services to Zoo guests.
The Zoo is looking for people to join their Guest Experiences Team. This part-time, entry-level position will not exceed more than 29 hours per week. Hours worked are based on business demand. Able to work weekends, special events, holidays and some late hours. Flexibility is needed due to changes in the crowd size and or weather. You must be comfortable working outdoors and in all types of weather conditions.
Communicates effectively, and answers guests’ questions with clarity.
Must be comfortable working with the public in a polite, courteous manner.
Opens and closes Call Center and Hospitality Cart.
Performs a wide range of jobs including but not limited to: Hospitality exit cart, handling guest inquiries, monitoring butterfly doors, providing useful information to visitors who contact the zoo via e-mail, telephone and or other media formats.
Use good judgment skills and troubleshooting abilities especially when dealing with guests and co-workers.
Ensures safety procedures are being followed in all areas of the park by both staff and guests.
Accurately report and log all information as to support improvements within the institution.
Must be able to create value for each and every guest by suggestive selling.
Must enjoy working as a team but be able to work as an individual.
Work is performed in all types of weather conditions. Required to be dressed according to weather conditions. Comply with Zoo dress code which includes proper shoe apparel; name tag at all times; khaki pants; shorts or skirts; and Zoo issued shirt, clean and tucked in.
Experience: This is an entry level position, but previous hospitality or customer service industry related or unrelated work experience helpful.
Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
Skills: Friendly and courteous attitude; trustworthy and dependable; neat and clean in appearance; punctual; able to handle large volumes of guests and stay calm under adverse circumstances; able to follow verbal and written directives. Quick and accurate basic math skills.
Technical Proficiency: Some experience with computers or cash registers preferred.
