What are Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs), how are they used and why should IUCN SSC members engage with them?
In 2004, the World Conservation Congress in Bangkok recognized that to deal with the threats to our biodiversity and ecosystems, we need a single framework that identifies important sites across taxonomy. This recognition resulted in the creation of The KBA Global Standard, an umbrella framework that was designed to identify areas of importance across all biodiversity. In this session, you will be introduced to KBAs, what they are, how they are being used and the relationship between KBAs and IUCN SSC membership will be explored.
