Flowers Hot & Cool
Is the weather hot enough for you? If not, visit White River Gardens to see flowers that are sure to remind you of fire and heat with their brightly colored orange, yellow, and red blossoms. Some of our favorites include a quirky looking annual called Celosia ‘Castle Orange’ (Cockscomb), Coreopsis grandiflora ‘Sunray’, Lily ‘Crimson Pixie’, Clematis ‘Madame Julie Correvon’ (an heirloom clematis) and the softer of the bunch, Digitalis grandiflora (Foxglove).
Too hot!? Try cooling off in the Ruth Lilly Shade Garden with Hydrangea quercifolia (Oakleaf Hydrangea) or Lamium ‘Purple Dragon’. Check out the Discovery Garden for the beautifully cool white Clematis called ‘Henryi, or the Motion Garden for Sambucus nigra ‘Black Lace’
