Travel with one of the Indianapolis Zoo’s most seasoned travelers, Karen Burns, to Zambia!

Known for its impressive walking safari, experience the excitement of watching prides of lions or the often-solitary leopards roam through the South Luangwa National Park in eastern Zambia for four exhilarating days.  With over 60 different animal species and 400 different species of birds, you are sure to spot one of your favorite animals in the wild.

After exploring eastern Zambia, travel to the Lower Zambezi Valley for the next three days as you master the untamed wilderness of the Lower Zambezi National Park in an open 4 x 4 land cruiser, boat or canoe.  Enjoy the beauty of the African elephant as herds are often seen gathered at the edge of the Zambezi River or listen for the ‘voice of Africa’ as the remarkable African fish eagle nests in the valley.

Overnight accommodations include the Sanctuary Chichele Presidential Lodge, which was once the personal retreat of the Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda, and the intimate Chongwe River Camp, where elephants frequently wander through the camp.
