Martin Luther King Jr. Day

"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'"
— Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

MLKDayA special thanks to everyone who visited the Zoo on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and donated a canned good item. In all, we collected more than 2,600 food items for Gleaners' Food Bank.

Service and community were central themes in the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In that spirit, guests are invited each year to join the Indianapolis Zoo as we celebrate his life and accomplishments. Along with our other partners in White River State Park, admission to the Zoo is free on this day with the donation of a canned food item for Gleaner's Food Bank (minimum donation of one item per person).

Although the Zoo is usually closed on Mondays in January, weather permitting, it will be our privilege to open our gates on this day to those with a generous heart. You'll not only enjoy a special visit to the Zoo but also a special feeling of helping our community. Our hardier animals will be out to enjoy the day, including sea lions, tigers, polar bear, walrus and more. Plus the Zoo's indoor exhibits — Oceans, Deserts and Dolphin Dome — will be open as well.
