Custodian — Hospitality Host
At
the Indianapolis Zoo, we take pride in presenting clean, well maintained
grounds and facilities to our guests.
As a full-time, 40-hour-a week custodian, you will keep the offices, rest
areas and grounds of the Zoo clean and beautiful for our guests and
employees. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: picking up
trash and litter; emptying trash containers; cleaning and sweeping offices,
restrooms and common areas; working with cleaning supplies; and setting up
for special events.
Job responsibilities
There are strenuous physical requirements of this position, including but
not limited to:
• Ability to work outdoors and indoors under all environmental conditions.
• Ability to walk and stand for the majority of the work shift.
• Ability to lift and drag at least 25 pounds of weight.
• Physical ability to walk, stand, kneel, squat, bend, lift and push while
performing various jobs.
• Excellent visual acuity and hearing required.
• Possible occupational exposure (Category B employee) to human bloodborne
pathogens. Possible exposure to dangerous chemicals (e.g. chlorine
bleach, cleaning agents, etc.). Must follow Universal Protection
Precautions and Bloodborne Pathogens Guidelines.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must be cooperative and work well with co-workers
and supervisors, be highly motivated, and once trained, be able to work
relatively independently with limited supervision. Flexibility in
availability is required, as hours on first and second
shift will be scheduled. Absolutely must be able to work
Saturdays and Sundays, as well as holidays. Pay is commensurate with
experience.
A high school degree or GED is required. Must be able to communicate
and comprehend the English language. Experience in commercial
cleaning/housekeeping is strongly preferred.
